Rachel Brosnahan looked regal and elegant in this structured Elie Saab gown at the Emmy Awards on Sept 22, 2019. This gown comes from Saab’s Spring 2019 Haute Couture collection. It was made in his altelier in Beirut from hand-sequined tulle and is lined in silk crepe de chine which gives it its fluid liquid drape. This stunning midnight blue, shimmering gown features a thick, high neck panel which scoops over both shoulders and down the back, creating straps. There is an asymmetrical neckline which climbs down the right shoulder and continues into two flat box pleats down the bodice. The upper right of the bodice features a peek of a sweetheart neckline. Draping continues below the waist band on the bias, and a large sculpted ruffle sits at the left hip. There is a thigh-high slit on the right side and a dramatic oval train. The low-cut square back has a concealed zipper closure. This look was paired with earrings by Ana Khouri and shoes by Jimmy Choo.
Rachel was styled by Jill Lincoln and Jordan Johnson who spoke to E! news about the dress. Johnson stated “Last year we went pretty classic with the look and this year she wanted to do something a little more out of the box and something slightly more sexy.” Lincoln described the gown as “very sleek and modern and cool” also noting that “it checked all of the boxes of our criteria for what we were looking for for this occasion.” Since the dress fit Brosnahan almost perfectly, the only major adjustment that had to be made was putting in a stronger zipper.
Regarding his Spring 2019 Haute Couture collection Elie Saab said, “I wanted to celebrate the magic of femininity.” “It’s a dream of luminous mermaids emerging from the waves and promenading along the sea.” This dress was my absolute favorite of the night and looked perfect from every angle.
